Week 7

"The weekend was dedicated to defining this robot that cuts fruit. In the next class we needed to come up with a name, a storyboard about the user experience, an initial sketch of this robot and the product description. We decided that it’s name would be Saki, because of my incredible perception of Spanish. During the meeting my colleagues began to sing the song “Taki Taki”, and I understood it as Saki Saki, to which I completed the chorus of the song with: "Saki Saki , saca la fruta ". The group seemed to like the name, which we agreed would be the name of the fruit-cutting robot.

I really enjoyed developing Saki. Álvaro gave the idea for the design of the robot, quite different from my original idea. We love it, and start sketching with exact measurements of Saki's size, height, and diameter. We describe it as being a toy and at the same time a kitchen utensil. My favorite part of this whole process was to do the storyboard, it was the first time I had the opportunity to spend more than 5 hours drawing, whitch I absolutely love. In the end, when I couldn’t look at the pencil anymore hahaha, I was delighted with the result. I realized that a comic artist work is not easy, but seeing my finale work, it’s something I’ll never be able to describe. Monday, time to introduce Saki.

We have not received any positive reviews, hahaha. But that did not discourage us! The criticisms received ranged from the fact that it was not safe for a child to have a toy with sharp blades, for, "Is it a toy or a food utensil?" To: "Why does it have to be remotely controlled? "What fruits can you cut?" "Can the child use this mechanism to cut the fruit or will he need the help of an adult?" "Who will peel the fruit?" And that's how the class ended. As the next week would be dedicated to the production of a Saki prototype, we made a trip to UTEC, in FRAY BENTOS, to learn what prototypes are and how to make them. They gathered us in a room and said, "Take 5 to 15 minutes to make a prototype of your project, remember this prototype does not have to be perfect and it has to be something that is easy to destroy something you can present as a representation of your idea but do not consume too much time in the production so that you are able to fail faster and learn more. " The phrase that marked me the most on this trip was:

"I love the smell of failure in the morning and the smell of conquest in the afternoon. "

It means that failure is the road to success. During this trip I realized that Saki, as it was, did not attract me as a customer, I would never buy such a robot for my children, because after all there are other more interesting remote-controlled toys, and kitchen utensils is what there is more. So, in the next class I proposed to my group that we change the project "Let's give up on Saki", I told them. Who convinced me was Giorgina who told me "We do not have much time to make a prototype, so we cannot start now from scratch, it will be more advantageous to improve Saki. What does not appeal you in Saki? "First, the price, second the design, and third, "Can I give independence to children in this way, I do not want a child to need help from someone to prepare fruit, if so, Saki does not have purpose". That same day we changed the design, Saki underwent a drastic change, and as a result Saki became a banal kitchen utensil. We changed the cutter mechanism, we removed the body, the remote control, even its beautiful antenna was removed. We were rewarded with a project that the teachers approved, something more ergonomic, because, after all, what distinguishes Saki from a banal fruit cutter is the design that is way more appealing to children. Next week we will introduce the new version of Saki to teachers, this time they will not resist the charms of Saki and if they resist team 5 will further innovate their project!

PS: We finally got news from Soe, they sent us a video of the girl receiving the wheelbarrow and as expected, she loved it! In the video she showed her running with the cart and getting excited by the bright lights around the body of the cockroach and the antennae"

"After much effort, it was time to present our idea in front of the class. We were very excited, we believed in our project, but unfortunately our teachers didn't`. In fact, they were extremely rude with the feedback, even in a strange way they said that our idea was absurd. Undoubtedly it was one of the worst moments of our team, luckily we are strong and I think that this will not affect our team. I'm sure we can do it"

"This week we had to present our idea and research to our teachers. After that we had to rethink the idea which we had been working last week. Now I'm with Nair writing this post and waiting to see the last episode of GOT <3 Álvaro #sorrynotsorry"

"After working in the idea to improve the quality life of children, we made the presentation of our product in front of the class. Although the feedback wasn´t so good because the product had some aspects to adjust, we maintained the idea and we are still working on it. There is a Albert Einstein’s quote that says: “If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it”.
